I really love this character..and she's been finding ways to sneak into all kinds of aspects for me. Xmas 2002 involved an animation with Fox and the biped. But, since I had no time for that, this year. A drawing was needed. Red fit that perfectly. You don't even have to know her to get the joke. Nuclear Bomb? happy..? uh oh.. she's probably dangerous..
It's more fun if you DO know her. but it works just the same.
Just look how happy she is! =D
Now.. run..
Unreal Tournament 2003, comes with a nifty little thing called "UPaint" This is basically a dumbed down version of "Deep Paint" Which lets you do things like, paint on the mesh. While I prefer to do all my work in Photoshop, this was useful to show me what the hell went where.. When these models were set up, they're mapped different than I'm used to. Lots of mirroring and mapping in odd places (for me). So being able to draw lines on the mesh, helped me figure out where things were supposed to go.
But what if you're not a artist or play UT2k3 and have NO IDEA what I'm talking about?
Sorry!
Basically, I took the game model that was there, took the map, and painted ontop of it in Photoshop. Which is what you see below. To the left is the game's map, and the right is (obviously) mine. it took me awhile, but I wanted to try it to see if I COULD actually not only do a decent map, but make it RED. because as you will see, Nebri (unreal character) doesn't really look anything like Red, at all. My only 100% failure was the tail. I tried to make it look like it was wrapped up. Like.. people didn't want her flying, you know? But, because of the way the tail was mapped, I found it basically impossible to get what I wanted.
The Only thing I haven't done to this now, which I will, eventually.. Is to shade it in. Give some shadows and highlight, to REALLY make it look nice. The problem is, with UT2k3, it doesn't support other people seeing the map, unless you PERSONALLY send it to them. Like, forced download. So 99% of the time, *I* get to see my map, but no one else. And what fun is that? The whole point to do it was so people could be like "what the...?" and then you BLAST EM!
Oh well. Still not a total loss. I think it looks as much like Red as I could possibly get. And the only reason I didn't model Red out, is because have no idea how to import custom models into UT2k3. Maps is easy. Models.. no clue.

For Xmas 2003, I decided to go all out and make shirts for people! So originally my plan was to take a logo for Fox and this Red logo, and then put a character picture on the back. I did Red's first, since I already had my picture AND logo. Just needed composition. So I made this up, but at the last second.. after showing it to a friend, it was decided the thing was overkill. *cry* all that work for nothing.. But in the end, it WAS overkill. Thats just what I always do.. So it was better to not use it. Still, it's maybe a cool poster or something.
