Contains a nice little after effects intro, Then "Desk Warfare", "An Unlikely Opponent", and "A walk in the Forest" which is a 2d animation with Fox. This is what got me the into the industry, and everything on the whole reel, was done by me. Modeling, texturing, animation, etc.
Ever play Rush 2049? If so, you might like this video. Back in my Premiere class, we had to make basically a music video for something. Or, a Promotion video as this is.. But it's more like a music video. And it is the second video i did, using the software.
The First Video I made with Premiere. Simple Premise, make a movie trailer. I'm pretty happy with this. Only thing is that the audio is kinda crappy, for some reason Premiere jacked up my audio fil when i brought it in. And i later found out it didn't like the MP3. But oh well.
You can see this almost just as easy on the Fox Frames site, Here. But for those that want to see it in action, I do have the file uploaded. This was done with a program called Toonz. Which is a 2d cel animation program. The drawings were made freehand though, colored in Toonz and put together there. The targets and effects are Photoshop. And the background is Max. We also, only had 2 weeks to make this, so it was rather rushed. It has a flash feel to it..
This is the end of my 3rd Max class. I had 4 hours to do this animation, as the title states.. It was a final exam. This was all done in IK, unlike the midterm, which was FK. If you dont know what that means.. don't worry about it. It's basically a rush job. 4 hours isn't much time to do an entire course. But it was 3rd best of the class.
This was the midterm for my 3rd Max class. Using FK to animate the guy going through this obsticle course that the teacher set up. Only had 4 hours to do this though, so it was very much, a rush job.
One of my most hated projects of all time.. MAX COMPLETELY screwed this up. Not even my teachers could explain to me why the arms were getting screwed up. We spent an hour messing with it, and then it SEEMED to work.. But oh, it was all a lie, as when I took it home, it died again. I did this project over, OVER 30 TIMES and what I have to show for it, is beyond horrendus. I have this up here for laughs, and laughs only. So you'd best laugh.
Very basic, just pushing an object using FK. For this being one of my early attempts at 3d animation, it turned out well for what it is. The truck is meant to be a toy truck, not a real truck.
This was the first 3d character animation that I did. When you watch it, be sure to have your settings to loop. Just a simple walk. All with FK. Model was provided by the teacher.
This, if you're a long time viewer of my site, is that machine project I mentioned back on my MAX pages, Class 3. Baiscally (if you know anything about 3d animation) The visibility tracks didn't work on anything, which is why you see EVERYTHING. My teachers had no idea why, I set it up fine.. This was right after a full all nighter too. Talk about stress..
This is yet another fine example of what happens, when computers screw up.
My first After Effects project, the focus on this is the text. The music is crazy because it was IN the videos i grabbed. In some places it works, in others.. it's just crazy.
The second After Effects project. For this, we had to make a DVD menu screen for some movie, and I chose Topgun since I already had the footage. This time, the video was added later, so it all works together as it should. That tomcat that zoom by, interesting to note, is my 3d Tomcat model and not a real photo!
Very Short, very basic, and really.. Not something i should be showing! But hey, I use this site to not only show where I am now, but where I started. Talent doesn't appear overnight, and I Hope that you'll either:
Get a kick out of it
See that yes, even I sucked on my first try
Or.. just point and Laugh!
Anyway, it's just a head turn. It;s amazing that this took me 4 hours the first time!
This is amazingly, my second animation class's work. I say amazingly, because the quality and langth of this is so far beyond what i could have ever imagined, I'm still shocked I did this. This is an animation of Fox walking through the forest, but then this ship shows up (supposed to be DRF) and starts attacking him. Theres a big fight and chase sequence, and there ya go. What is really ffunny about it is that we really only need a few things.
Walk, head turn, reaction.
what he was reacting to.
Run, 180 turn.
But instead.. you know.. I have the ship blasting ast him, and carving up the ground.. and he jumps away but then takes off.. jumps on a rock.. ship blows up the rock and.. well you get the idea.
WAY more than I ever needed to do. In fact, This is 41 seconds, for my second class. You don't even have to do 30 seconds until the LAST TWO quarters. But i did 41.. In one quarter.. for my second class! It's pretty crazy when i look back at it.
This is one of the animations you will see on my Demo Reel, at the very end.
I don't know why i'm putting this up here.. it's really bad.. this was a break in between the animation below. The teacher wanted exaggerated movements.. and well.. i went too much.. but the legs walking is good, and 4 legs isn't exactly the easist thing to do. *shrug* if you wanna see this, be ready to laugh! My dad always harasses me about it. heh.
Now remember, I just did 41 seconds for my second class. So what does the third class want? Oh, just 10 seconds of whatever you feel like doing. 10 Seconds! This was a semi-cake walk for me because of what i just did, the quarter before. I say "semi" because my other classes started to pick up, and I wasn't able to work on this one as long. During the middle of it, it stops and says "keys" and that is because I keyed out the whole animation, then i didn't have time to inbetween it all. Inbetweens make things go slower and smoothly. So if you check this out, after "keys" it gets jerky, because thats all it is! Just another example of me going overkill.
Plus, this aniamtion was a bit harder because I just made up a new character specifically for this. I wanted to take a break form Fox and try something totally different. But then.. i had to understand how that character worked. Lots of Preplanning before I even started. You can see that, Here
*Note, this animation repeats a few times to show the steps taken. the first pass cuts early, and with no flying background, later on that all comes in, So be sure to watch all of it!*
Well, I did 41 seconds in my second class, pulled a completely new character out for my 3rd.. What could i do to top those now? Hows about.. multiple characters and giving Fox his wings back! And hey, lets start out the WHOLE THING with 20 something Birds flying around. That sounds psycho enough to me.
But really, the bird were HELL to animate. Very confusing to keep track of them all. Thanks to one of my friends for suggesting to cvolor code them, it helped my sanity. But consider this.. Keeping track of every bird. where it's flying, how fast, did it flap last frame or not? That kind of thing. Boy.. I am crazy..
So anyway, this was kind of a failure. Like most of my stuff, I aimed way, WAY too high, and had some huge 2-3 minute piece mapped out. But then my other classes kicked up, especially the 3d ones.. and So i couldn't dedicate the time I wanted to, on it.
So it's "Fox vs Rax" but Rax Doesn't show up until the very end.. and then it's over! But you could see what I had planned anyway, because i have the Storyboard up.
I wasnt able to upload the full movie.. so read below for instructions on that. Anyway, this is the ever horrid special topics class project. 14 people worked on ours, and it is SO awful, It blows the mind. But, I snagged the parts I did because THOSE are decent enough. When you look at it, this is what i did:
Car- Modeling and animation *NOT TEXTURING* (that texture is so awful..)
Piano Player- Animation, character and camerawork
Rope- ALL of it, except the voice
Sorry I'm not uploading the whole thing, but trust me.. even your wildest imagination cant match how bad it is.. best to just bury it and never look back.
Another short one. But my second animation. I Put these in order for you guys so you can all see the progression. Already, you can see a vast improvement. The timing still needs alot of work.. but wow.. What a leap from the first one.
Uh oh, it's a step backwards.. Kinda. The problem with this, is that I did too much, for so little frames. I got overly into it. And instead of looking like a HEAVY object, it looks extremely light. And in fast forward mode. Because theres like.. 6-7 moves, with only 40 frames or something.
Ah yes.. Lesson #1: Less frames means faster.. Oops!
Actually, the next thing we did, was a walk cycle. But since you see that in the first 30 frames, I just moved past it. It's 2 in 1 baby! First, the walk cycle, and then, Fox gets beaten down by the rock. Okay not really, but he does hit his toe on it. This was the last animation for my first class. I really went all out with it, and learning my lesson from the lift.. drew MANY more frames. It's still a bit fast, but at least it makes SENSE now.
Poor Fox..
Totally Screwed Up Animations
AIP 3d Animation Projects
All the animations found here, are either assignments I did for classes at AIP, or full on projects for the upper clases. The Demo Reel, is the last project i did at the school, but it deserves to be separite from this section, as it's full fledged final pieces, in their own right. Some of the things found here will be very old, or basic, or even unfinished. But One of the thing I like to do with my site, is show people progression. If you have the time, It's fun to see where I first started, and where I am now.
AIP 2d Animation Projects
As an animator, we were (rightfully) forced to do 2d animation classes. In fact, we had to start these even before touching 3d. The reason to to get the concepts down, because truely good animation, or any kind, is good because the animator has mastered the concepts behind it all. Like the 3d animations, I'm showing all here. These are more amusing, and amazing too, because you can see the first animation i ever did, and then the next week.. and the next week.. And as you watch these, there is a drastic improvement (well, usually) every time. Worth a look if you have the time.
Failed Projects. But failures due to the computer/software killing whatever work i had. Maybe the joint removed itself from the bone chain.. or maybe the joints REFUSE to rotate in the right direction? Or heck,m maybe the visibility tracks refused to work. it's all here.. and hopefully, this is all that you will ever see. But it's here for laughs. Even if, at the time, I was doing anything but that, when it all went to hell.
One of the biggest failures I ever had, and all because the computer butchered it. This is a lipsync project that we had to do for my Advanced Modeling class. Using the character Cade Wolf. The lipsync was my first try at anything like that, and we only had a day to do it, so that was pretty hard, even if it turned out alright. But we also needed to do full body animation. Well, I animated the whole thing in bones mode, hiding the mesh so i could move quickly. After I had the basic rough in of the animation, I decided to check it against the mesh. This was when i found that the elbow bone had REMOVED ITSELF from the skinned list of bones. Thus, killing the smooth skin that was there before, and turning it into a total disaster. After losing my mind for about a half hour, I tried to fix it, but that elbow bone not only removed itself.. but would NOT allow itself it be added back in. I tried for about 2 hours to fix it, but never was able to. Finally, i said the hell with it and just rendered the damn this as it was, destroyed.
Prepare to laugh your ass off, because ye gods, this is so bad.
And yeah.. the Voice Acting isn't very good either. This is why I don't act, you know?
My first reel completed after joining the animation industry in 2002. There are little hints back to the 2001 reel, but mostly.. this is all game work.
Though only a year later, big improvements were added to create the next 2006 reel. Including my own animation I did from home. The first time since 2001.
In a somewhat odd move, I made two reels in 2009 instead of one. My original intent was to put out different versions for game companies vs film companies. As they tend to want different things. This would be the game company version.
Showing more actions, movement, mechanics, and traditional game animation
In a somewhat odd move, I made two reels in 2009 instead of one. My original intent was to put out different versions for game companies vs film companies. As they tend to want different things. This would be the film company version.
Showing more acting, emotion, dialogue and interaction.
Despite my initial attempts at tayloring to company needs, I was told my many experts to chop it down to one reel. This is the result.
Shorter than the previous two. Also including more work I did during 2008 which was finally published.
NOTE:
All animations under this text have broken links. My file hosting server went down years ago. Someday they may be put back online, but currently all are offline.
